The prevalence of fluorosis is mainly due to the consumption of more fluoride (F?1) through drinking water, vegetables, and crops. The objective of the study was mapping of F?1 endemic area of Newai Tehsil, Tonk district, Rajasthan, India. For the present study, water, soil (0–45 cm), and vegetation samples were collected from 17 villages. Fluoride concentration in water samples ranged from 0.3 to 9.8 mg/l. Out of 17 villages studied, the amounts of F?1 content of eight villages were found to exceed the permissible limits. Labile F?1 content and total F?1 content in soil samples ranges 11.00–70.05 mg/l and 50.3–179.63 μg g?1, respectively. F?1 content in tree species was found in this order Azadirachta indica 47.32–55.76 μg g?1 > Prosopis juliflora 40.16–49.63 μg g?1 > Acacia tortilis 34.39–43.60 μg g?1. While in case of leafy vegetables, F?1 content order was Chenopodium album 54.23–98.42 μg g?1 > Spinacea oleracea 30.41–64.09 μg g?1 > Mentha arvensis 35.48–51.97 μg g?1. The order of F?1 content in crops was found as 41.04 μg g?1 Pennisetum glaucum > 13.61 μg g?1 Brassica juncea > 7.98 μg g?1 Triticum sativum in Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) farms. Among vegetation, the leafy vegetables have more F?1 content. From the results, it is suggested that the people of KVK farms should avoid the use of highly F?1 containing water for irrigation and drinking purpose. It has been recommended to the government authority to take serious steps to supply drinking water with low F?1 concentration for the fluorosis affected villages. Further, grow more F?1 hyperaccumulator plants in F?1 endemic areas to lower the F?1 content of the soils. 相似文献

The necessity to move towards a sustainable economy is increasing day by day owing to various problems like climate change, increasing crude oil prices, etc. In this line, hydropyrolysis of Jatropha seed deoiled cake has been carried out at various pressures of hydrogen (1, 20, 40 and 52 bar) at 450 °C. With an increase in pressure under the experimental conditions of present study from 1 to 40 bar, the yield of bio-oil is found to have increased and beyond 40 bar the bio-oil yields have decreased. It has been observed that the liquid bio-oil yield is highest at 17 wt% at 40 bar. The FTIR spectrum of the bio-oil and char at 40 bar shows maximum functionality, indicating the clear opening of the macromolecular structure. The EDAX analysis of the hydropyrolysis char obtained at 40 bar pressure show a maximum of 85 wt% carbon and minimum of oxygen 13 wt%. 相似文献

The effect of the two most critical parameters, the sample flow rate and sampling duration, on the absorption efficiency of NO2 in the sodium arsenite method of nitrogen dioxide determination in ambient air was studied. Laboratory experiments showed a high sensitivity to these parameters, which were subjected to variation during actual field monitoring. The reported NO2 absorption efficiency of the method of 82% at a flow rate of 0.2 l min-1 was found to be as low as 33% at a flow rate of 1.0 l min-1 for a sampling duration of 24 h. Similarly, a considerable decrease in absorption efficiency with increasing sampling duration from 2 to 24 h was observed at a particular flow rate. Correction factors for the absorption efficiency were evolved that can be used to update the existing database, as well as future NO2 data generated using this manual monitoring method. 相似文献

The pesticides are one of the most potentially harmful chemicals liberated in the environment in an unplanned manner Malathion is widely used as a potent pesticide in many countries and has been shown to produce some adverse health effects. A study was conducted to asses the effects of malathion on the male reproductive system of wistar rats. The pesticide was administered to rats orally at dose levels of 50, 150 and 250 mg/kg/body wt/day for 60 days. In comparison to the control rats, there was a significant reduction in the weight of testes, epididymis, seminal vesicle and ventral prostate. Testicular and epididymal sperm density were decreased in the animals treated with malathion. Pre and post fertility test showed 80% negative results after treatment Biochemical profile of the testis revealed a significant decline in the contents of sialic acid and glycogen. Whereas a significant increase in the protein content of testis and testicular cholesterol was observed. The activity of testicular enzyme acid phosphatase increased significantly while decreased alkaline phosphatase activity was found. Malathion also suppressed the level of testosterone significantly Results of the present study clearly suggest that malathion induce toxic effects on the male reproductive system of rats. 相似文献

Four species of Dunaliella and a carbonic anhydrase deficient mutant of Dunaliella tertiolecta (Butcher), HL 25/8, developed a process for concentrating dissolved inorganic carbon when adapted on air or low CO2 for 24 h in the light. However, the external carbonic anhydrase activities in Dunaliella species were nil or low compared with those in Chlamydomonas reinhardtii (Danegard) or some Chlorella species. D. tertiolecta had low and about equal levels of external and internal carbonic anhydrase. D. parva (Lerche) and the D. tertiolecta mutant had negligible external carbonic anhydrase. D. viridis (Teodoresco) and D. salina (Teodoresco), high salt tolerant species, had high activities of intenal carbonic anhydrase but low levels of external carbonic anhydrase. Antiserum prepared against the 37 kDa peptide of extracellular carbonic anhydrase from Chlamydomonas reinhardtii was immunoreactive with a polypeptide of 30 kDa in D. tertiolecta and its salt sensitive external carbonic anhydrase (CA) mutant HL 25/8. External CA activity from D. tertiolecta was stimulated about three-fold, by including 0.5 M NaCl in the assay medium, while internal CA was not significantly affected by NaCl. External CA activities in the other species were insensitive to NaCl, while their internal activities were 90% inhibited by 0.5 M NaCl. Sorbitol only partly replaced NaCl in stimulating the external CA from D. tertiolecta. These experiments were performed with Dunaliella spp. grown in controlled laboratory cultures during September through November 1989. 相似文献

Foodborne viruses, particularly human norovirus (NV) and hepatitis virus type A, are a cause of concern for public health making it necessary to explore novel and effective techniques for prevention of foodborne viral contamination, especially in minimally processed and ready-to-eat foods. This study aimed to determine the antiviral activity of a probiotic lactic acid bacterium (LAB) against feline calicivirus (FCV), a surrogate of human NV. Bacterial growth medium filtrate (BGMF) of Lactococcus lactis subsp. lactis LM0230 and its bacterial cell suspension (BCS) were evaluated separately for their antiviral activity against FCV grown in Crandell–Reese feline kidney (CRFK) cells. No significant antiviral effect was seen when CRFK cells were pre-treated with either BGMF (raw or pH 7-adjusted BGMF) or BCS. However, pre-treatment of FCV with BGMF and BCS resulted in a reduction in virus titers of 1.3 log10 tissue culture infectious dose (TCID)50 and 1.8 log10 TCID50, respectively. The highest reductions in FCV infectivity were obtained when CRFK cells were co-treated with FCV and pH 7-adjusted BGMF or with FCV and BCS (7.5 log10 TCID50 and 6.0 log10 TCID50, respectively). These preliminary results are encouraging and indicate the need for continued studies on the role of probiotics and LAB on inactivation of viruses in various types of foods. 相似文献

The aim of the work presented here is to study the effectiveness of building air handling units (AHUs) in serving as high volume sampling devices for airborne bacteria and viruses. An HVAC test facility constructed according to ASHRAE Standard 52.2-1999 was used for the controlled loading of HVAC filter media with aerosolized bacteria and virus. Nonpathogenic Bacillus subtilis var. niger was chosen as a surrogate for Bacillus anthracis. Three animal viruses; transmissible gastroenteritis virus (TGEV), avian pneumovirus (APV), and fowlpox virus were chosen as surrogates for three human viruses; SARS coronavirus, respiratory syncytial virus, and smallpox virus; respectively. These bacteria and viruses were nebulized in separate tests and injected into the test duct of the test facility upstream of a MERV 14 filter. SKC Biosamplers upstream and downstream of the test filter served as reference samplers. The collection efficiency of the filter media was calculated to be 96.5 +/- 1.5% for B. subtilis, however no collection efficiency was measured for the viruses as no live virus was ever recovered from the downstream samplers. Filter samples were cut from the test filter and eluted by hand-shaking. An extraction efficiency of 105 +/- 19% was calculated for B. subtilis. The viruses were extracted at much lower efficiencies (0.7-20%). Our results indicate that the airborne concentration of spore-forming bacteria in building AHUs may be determined by analyzing the material collected on HVAC filter media, however culture-based analytical techniques are impractical for virus recovery. The treatment of solid waste is currently one of the major environmental problems facing municipalities. Thousands of tonnes of waste are generated each day, requiring a large area for disposal purposes. It is difficult to find suitable areas for the construction of such sanitary landfills as numerous criteria must be met, and landfill sites vary considerably in terms of their sophistication. The selection criteria for landfill sites should be as simple as possible, and with this in mind, we have evaluated a large number of random cases for the suitability of the site for landfill purposes using the recently advocated fuzzy approach. Using the fuzzy classification, we have attempted to develop a simple classification which uses only certain point values for available attributes. A normalized average of such attributes based on the proposed classifier is further evaluated using additionally generated random data sets. The results appear to be encouraging and indicate that the present classifier can be used as a substitute for the fuzzy-based ranking of landfill sites. 相似文献

A study was conducted in the residential areas of Delhi, India, to assess the variation in ambient air quality and ambient
noise levels during pre-Diwali month (DM), Diwali day (DD) and post-Diwali month during the period 2006 to 2008. The use of
fireworks during DD showed 1.3 to 4.0 times increase in concentration of respirable particulate matter (PM10) and 1.6 to 2.5 times increase in concentration of total suspended particulate matter (TSP) than the concentration during
DM. There was a significant increase in sulfur dioxide (SO2) concentration but the concentration of nitrogen dioxide (NO2) did not show any considerable variation. Ambient noise level were 1.2 to 1.3 times higher than normal day. The study also
showed a strong correlation between PM10 and TSP (R
2 ≥ 0.9) and SO2 and NO2 (R
2 ≥ 0.9) on DD. The correlation between noise level and gaseous pollutant were moderate (R
2 ≥ 0.5). The average concentration of the pollutants during DD was found higher in 2007 which could be due to adverse meteorological
conditions. The statistical interpretation of data indicated that the celebration of Diwali festival affects the ambient air
and noise quality. The study would provide public awareness about the health risks associated with the celebrations of Diwali
